The choice of platform in the complex SAS Grid deployment arena can be challenging, due to the basic nature of analytics and the SAS product. Finding clear and concise comparisons to assist with the decision is difficult. Those comparisons frequently use artificial benchmarks, which lack applicability to the real world. In an effort to build an understanding of the real points of differentiation between IBM System x and other x86 offerings for SAS Grid deployments, extensive real-world customer experience was analyzed to articulate the significant differentiators.
With a request from IBM for information on SAS deployments. SIL gathered and analyzed data from a wide range of implementations, examining reliability and other key characteristics of operations. The comparison of such real-world results has produced a succinct comparison of this complex arena. SIL's findings are stated in this publication.
