The implementation process is a complex aggregate of tasks, results and change. Many implementations have an end result that is significantly different from that expected at the start of the project, especially when combined with other existing operational components. The impact of adding more process requirements into the existing production environment can result in resource contention problems surfacing in what was previously a smoothly running operation.

In order to prevent this occurrence, SIL creates a predictive performance model showing the current system and then models the introduction of the new workload. This model can then be leveraged to provide guidance during the actual deployment process. In this situation, SIL applies the decisions, new application specifications and any test runs to the model. The model is then exercised to show possible performance problems, scaling issues and other significant risk points.

As these are uncovered, they are reported to the deployment and operations team. With this sort of advanced realization of the possible operational outcome, alleviation tactics and strategies can be devised earlier in the deployment process, when they are far less expensive in time and money, and less damaging from a user acceptance perspective.
